Ever thought about giving a few hours of your time to help others or the environment?

If you have then this is the place for you.

Across the County there are opportunities for you to get involved in the work of voluntary organisations.

It doesn’t matter if you want to cut down trees and have huge bonfires, help restore old engines or work with those less fortunate than yourself there is something out there for you.

Not only does volunteering get you out of the house it can also earn you brownie points when applying for uni or a job. In some cases it could even lead to a paid job.

On the brownie points scale there are two schemes that seem to go down really well one is the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme and the other is the Millennium Volunteers.

But who wants you?

Well we do at, at CAB, for one if your over sixteen then we’d love to hear from you. The work is stimulating and very varied, full training is given leading to nationally recognised qualification and it can be done through the Millennium Volunteer Scheme.

For something more physical then the Broads Authority has groups going out Monday to Friday plus the Second Sunday in every month. If your interested contact Maggie Engledow on 01493 367810 or email maggie.engledow@broads-authority.gov.uk for more details. Work here can be linked to the DoE Award Scheme.

The National Trust, The Norfolk Wildlife Trust and RSPB are also looking for volunteers.

Maybe your childhood fantasy has been to drive a railway engine? If so why not contact one of the heritage railways.

The Mid Norfolk Railway e- mail volunteer co-ordinator or telephone 01362 690633.
