So you’ve been told you look like a million dollars and should become a model? So like thousands of youngsters every year you think to yourself: ‘Yeah I look like Kate Moss or Becks, so why can’t I earn a fortune standing around looking great having my photo taken in expensive clothes?’
But how do you get to the stage where one of the big agencies like Next or Storm spots you and offers to find you work?
If you’re really lucky one of their talent scouts will see you in the baker’s, on the beach or down the pub, give you their card and the new Naomi Campbell is found! It does happen as these big agencies have talent spotters out all the time looking for someone with the right looks and it might be you.
BE WARNED
There are some crooks out there that will stop at nothing to make money out of you and/or try to get you into bed.
If the scout is genuine they will be happy for you to take their card, go home and arrange an appointment where you can take a chaperone, mum, dad or partner along to see that all is what it should be.
If the agency asks you for money for photographs, registration, assessments or really anything where they want you to pay money up front it might be a scam. So be very careful and take advice, check the company out, ask to meet some of their models, ask who their clients are. If they are genuine they should not mind but if they give you the run-around then don’t give them your time or money.
Be very careful about some of the internet sites as they can lead to modelling of a very different nature.
An organisation called Safe Modelling have a super website that gives you all the dos and don’ts about getting into modelling.
Most models don’t make a fantastic living and don’t jet round the world drinking champagne in exotic locations. But you might just be the one to strike it lucky.
