Prostitution
It has been called the oldest profession in the world and many men and women have been forced through poverty to make money by selling their bodies for money.
To help you get your head round this - in law a common prostitute is a woman who offers sexual favours for money to men in general. If she goes with only one man and still gets paid then she is not a prostitute and equally if she goes with lots of men but doesn’t get paid again she might be a slapper but is not a prostitute.
It is not illegal to be prostitute but you could be charged with other offences such as loitering or soliciting.
Anyone who earns money from your work, as a prostitute, is committing an offence and could be charged with the offence of living off immoral earnings.
Kerb Crawlers
If a man is looking for a prostitute and does this from a car he could be arrested for kerb crawling. He can even be arrested if he parks gets out and asks women for sex.
Child prostitutes
Since 2000 the Home Office have issued guidelines which say that those under 18 should be treated as victims of abuse and should only be prosecuted if all the local agencies are sure that the young person is acting as a prostitute of her/his own free will and all attempts to move her/him away from prostitution have failed.
