Thinking about getting or changing your job?

If you are, then you might want a hand to applying for it.

Where to look?

Often the best way to find a job is through word of mouth. A friend or relation might be working somewhere and they tell you about a job before it is advertised. They may be able to put in a good word for you.

The Local and National papers all have job sections where employers advertise jobs on a regular basis. Some papers like the Guardian advertise specific kinds of jobs on certain days. Specialist magazines also advertise jobs in their field so if you are looking for a job in repairing and restoring classic cars then you might think about looking in a classic car mag for a job.

The EDP and other local papers have a job section which advertise a wide range of vacancies with local and regional employers.

There is also a wide range of employment agencies advertising posts in everything from advertising to zoos.

The Government also runs a series of agencies and schemes to help you find a job to suit your skills. You could try these websites to give you a pointer in the right direction.

The newdeal website has info but the various schemes they are running.

If you’re thinking of training in a particular field then you may want to go down the modern apprenticeship route and the websites above can help.

Another site that can help with work, training and child care is www.worktrain.gov.uk this site lists training opportunities and child care providers across the country. It is searchable by post code and the kind of provision you are looking for.
