| Register with a dentist who takes patients on the NHS and dental care is free for under 18s, if you're pregnant, a full-time student up to 19 or receiving Income Support. Even if you don't fall into one of those categories, but are still on a low income, you can still get help by applying for a special passport. |
Optician I've got problems with my eyesight. |
| Make an appointment with an Optician and have your eyesight tested. |
| Will I have to pay for the test? |
| You won't need to pay if you are under 16, pregnant, a full-time student up to 19, receiving Income Support or income based Job Seekers Allowance or in some cases Working Families Tax Credit. |
| How do I pay for the glasses? |
| If you need glasses you'll then get vouchers towards your specs or contact lenses. |
| What if I don't fall into one of the above categories? |
| You may still get help if you're on a low income you can apply for a special passport so you can get some help with your specs. Do you work with computers? If you do your employer should reimburse the cost of a sight test every two years and pay for glasses where they are needed to help you with your job. |

| No, you can shop around for the best deal. |
| Prescriptions Do I have to pay? |
| Prescriptions are free for under 16s, full-time students up to 19, those receiving Income Support and during pregnancy and for 12 months after the birth, plus some other categories. Even if you don't qualify for one of those categories but have little or no income, you may still qualify for free prescriptions but will need to apply for a special passport. |
