Death

What would happen to you if lost a parent?

If your parents are married and one of them dies then you will probably live with the remaining parent.

If your mum dies and she wasn't married to your dad, your dad doesn't have automatic rights to provide housing for you, unless he had previously obtained a Parental Responsibility Order or been appointed guardian by your mum. However, he could apply to the Courts, for a parental responsibility order and a residence order, for you to live with him.

If you lost both parents, relatives or friends may look after you if your parents had made arrangements in a deed or will. Otherwise the local council would make arrangements for you to be fostered, adopted or go into residential care.

Have you lost someone close to you and need to chat to someone who understands?
