spacer Council Housing

In Norfolk council housing has been administered by each of the district councils but over that few years some of the councils have been turning their housing over to housing associations. To find out if your council still has housing contact the housing department.

If you want to get a council house you will need to register with your local council who will then allocate housing according to a set of rules laid down by the Government in a code of practice.

If you’re a parent under 18 then if council helps with housing it will include support relating to parenting. The support could come from the social services or other support agencies.

If you’re under 18 you can’t have a tenancy but the council will still find you accommodation where you will hold a licence that gives you nearly the same rights as a secure tenant. It could be that the Social Services Department will guarantee your rent, but you need to check with them first.

For more information contact your local council, local CAB or email us.
