Baby arrives?
spacer Conception

So you’ve had unprotected sex and left things a bit too late for emergency contraception?

Don’t panic yet - you might not be pregnant but you’ll have to wait and see what happens at your next period or even the one after. Don’t rush for the pregnancy test as some of them won’t necessarily give a true reading until eight weeks.

Whilst you’re waiting it might be an idea to talk to some you trust about what you’re thinking of doing.

If the test is negative you’ve got nothing to worry about but you might want to think about your contraceptive plans – go here

Your test was positive

Firstly, remember it’s your body and you need to decide what you want to do.

Basically you have two choices:

1. Have the baby
2. Have a termination

With having the baby you will need to consider a range of options:

  • Do I bring the child up by myself and get the father to pay maintenance

  • Adoption

  • Move in with the father and we live as a family

  • Get married and live happily ever after

If you’re under 16 your options will be more limited as you will not be able to marry your partner and may need to have the consent of your parents if you decide to have an abortion.

For more information about benefits and your options check out www.adviceguide.org.uk or visit your local Citizens Advice Bureau click here for their contact details or e mail us youth@askcab.co.uk
