Carers and Caring
Carers
R U Caring for someone?
If you are, you might be able to get some help. Different people are entitled to different benefits and the forms are a nightmare but don't let that put you off.
If the person you are caring for has a disability and is aged 0 - 65 they may be entitled to disability living allowance(DLA). Depending on the severity of their disability this could be worth up to £95.55 a week (Feb 2003). If the person you are caring for is under 16 there are special rules and over 65 a different but similar benefit, attendance allowance may be payable.
If the person you're looking after is getting one of the higher rates of DLA, you're not working and over 16 then you might be entitled to Invalid Care Allowance.
As a carer money is often the least of your problems and you need something much more precious and that is a little time for yourself. If this is the case then you might need help with respite care, a holiday, or just some time to go shopping.
There are places you can go to get help with all these issues: Your local CAB Carers Forum 01603 219924 Carers UK 0808 8087777 info@ukcarers.org www.carersonline.org.uk
