Travel costs to and from hospital


What is it?

You can qualify for help with travel expenses to and from hospital if you are getting either Income Support or Income-based Job Seekers Allowance. If you are not getting these benefits, then you may still be entitled to get help from the NHS Low Income Scheme.

You can also claim for another person to travel with you if you are not capable of getting there on your own.

The hospital will refund your charges if you produce proof of your entitlement.

You will need to complete form HC1.


Where do I apply?

If you haven’t yet claimed under the Low Income scheme, ask the hospital for form HC5, so that you can claim your refund. The hospital will have to complete part of this form.
