Telephone banking


The telephone has revolutionised the way in which we do our banking. Before the introduction of the Internet, the telephone offered a way of accessing your bank account without having to visit your local branch.

All leading banks and building societies offer telephone-banking services to some degree or another, with many finance companies operating purely by telephone.

Telephone banking has the advantages of convenience, in the respect that you can contact their bank wherever you may be. The only items required for this is a telephone and the details of your accounts.

Most banks and building societies will offer their telephone services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means that no matter where you are in the world, and no matter what time of day it is, as long as you can get to a phone, you can take care of your banking needs.

Although it is impossible to dispense cash over the phone, nearly all banks will offer the same services over the telephone, that you can take care of if you visited the local branch. These services may include:


Generally speaking, the telephone banking service will be offered free of charge, but this is not always the case, so you will have to check with the bank or building society that you belong to.

Also, you should check to make sure that the call is either a free phone number, or charged at a local rate call.
