Sick or disabled…?

Are you sick, injured, or disabled?

If you are, then this is a quick introduction to the various benefits that may be available to you.

(Of course, everyone’s circumstances will vary, so unfortunately there are no straightforward rules as to what you are entitled to, but this guide should help you to find out more information. This isn’t an exhaustive list though, and we recommend that you always seek further advice).

The benefit of Benefits.

If you are an employee of a company or organisation, and you are unable to work due to sickness or injury, then you should be able to claim Statutory Sick Pay.

However, if you are unemployed, self-employed, or sick for more than 28 weeks, then you may be able to claim Incapacity Benefit instead.

If, for whatever reason, you are not able to claim either Statutory Sick Pay or Incapacity Benefit, then you may be able to claim Income Support.

If you need help in looking after yourself or getting around due to sickness or a disability, then you may be able to claim either the care component, or mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance.

You can also claim this benefit if you are looking after a child under the age of 16 who has a severe physical or mental illness or disability.
