Pregnant…?

Are you or your partner about to become a Mum?

If you have answered, “yes” to the above question, then this is a quick introduction to the various benefits that may be available to you.

(Of course, everyone’s circumstances will vary, so unfortunately there are no straightforward rules as to what you are entitled to, but this guide should help you to find out more information. This isn’t an exhaustive list though, and we recommend that you always seek further advice).

The benefit of Benefits.

If you are employed, and you have recently found out that you, or your partner, are expecting, then you may be entitled to claim Statutory Maternity Pay or Statutory Paternity Pay.

To find out more information on Statutory Maternity and Paternity Pay, click here.

However, if you are unemployed, or you are not entitled to claim Statutory Maternity Pay, then you should see if you are entitled to claim Maternity Allowance. If you find that you are not entitled to claim either of these benefits, then you may be able to get help by claiming Incapacity Benefit.

If you are unemployed, and you are expecting a baby, then you can claim Income Support from the 11th week before the expected date of birth.

If you live in a rented property, then you may be able to get help in paying your rent by claiming Housing Benefit. However, if you need help in meeting your mortgage repayments, then you may be able to get help through Income Support.

Other help from the Social Fund may also be available to you in the form of a Budgeting Loan, or a Crisis Loan. Crisis Loans will only be awarded if you have experienced a disaster of some kind.
