Money for School Clothing
What is it?
Getting kitted out for school can be expensive. The cost of the actual uniform, plus the added expenses of any sports kit all adds up.
There are certain schemes available that will help meet these costs. In order to qualify for extra help, you must be a school student under the age of 18.
Whether or not you will qualify will depend on the policies of the Local Education Authority (LEA) in your area. This is Norfolk County Council for all areas in Norfolk.
They have the discretion to assist with the cost of school clothing for pupils in the county, voluntary and maintained special schools, as well as sixth forms and colleges for further education.
It is more likely that you will qualify if you live on a low income, or your family has special circumstances.
You could also try the governing body or the parents association of the school or college. They may have a second-hand uniform shop where the clothing can be bought cheaply, or they may keep a special stock of second-hand clothing for pupils who fall into their criteria for help. You can find out what help is available by contacting the head-teacher or Parents association.
You may also want to find out if there is a charitable trust set up in your area that can help to meet school uniform costs.
