Housing Benefit Extended Payments
What is it?
This is a benefit that is designed to help you with your housing payments if you have just started a new job or increased your hours, and, as a result, will be coming off certain benefits.
You can continue getting the Housing Benefit Extended Payments for an extra 4 weeks after starting your new job.
In order to qualify you, or your partner, must have:
- Been getting Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance for at least 26 weeks.
- Stopped getting Income Support or Income-based Job Seekers Allowance because you have started work, or increased your working hours or wages.
- Started full-time employment that you expect will last for 5 weeks or more.
How much will I get?
The amount that you are given will depend on the amount of Housing Benefit you have been getting.
How do I apply?
You will need to tell the Jobcentre plus office where you claim your benefit that you have started work, and they will be able to discuss your options with you.
