Crisis Loans
What is it?
A Crisis Loan is an interest-free loan that offers financial help in an emergency or disaster. You do not need to be getting benefits to be awarded a Crisis loan, but you will be required to pay the loan back over a specific period of time.
In order to be awarded a Crisis Loan you will need to be aged 16 years or over and either unable to pay for basic living costs that could result in being a serious risk to the health and safety of you or your family, or unable to pay for something else that could result in being a serious health risk to you or your family.
If either of these cases applies to you, and there is no other way of getting financial help, then apply for a Crisis Loan.
How much will I get?
There is no standard amount that you can apply for, and the amount that you are given will depend on your particular circumstances. Any savings that you may have and whether you have borrowed from the Social fund before will affect how much you get.
Before you get any money you will have to agree how you will pay back the loan. If you have any problems paying back the loan, then the Social Security office may be able to help, so you should contact them and inform them of any problems that you may be facing.
How do I apply?
You can apply for a Crisis Loan from the Social Fund by completing form SF401.
