Child Tax Credits

Child Tax Credits

What is it?

The Child Tax Credit is a means tested benefit, which means the amount you receive will depend on your individual circumstances, which is paid to parents and carers of children, or young people who are still in education.

It is paid by the government, but distributed by the Inland Revenue.

Providing you and your family have a gross income (before Tax and National Insurance are deducted) of less than £50,000.00, you could be eligible to claim Child Tax Credit.

Child tax credit is designed to support families with children. It will be paid in addition to child benefit. Both working and non-working families will be eligible.
The tax credit will cover children until Sep 1st after their 16th birthday or until the age of 19 if they continue in full-time education.
The credit will be paid alongside child benefit but will vary according to individual circumstances such as the number of children in each family.

How much will I get?

The amount that you can expect to receive through the Child Tax credits depends on your individual circumstance, but the allowances are as follows.

£545.00 will be paid as a family element
£545.00 will be paid as a baby element (if family has a child under the age of 1)
£1,765.00 for each child
£2,350.00 for each disabled child
£945.00 for each severely disabled child
